Description

It Gets Worse is a raw, comedic exploration about the horrors of being in relationships, specifically with oneself. Inspired by her journey as a child actor, mall goth, birth doula, private investigator and waiter, Cleary tells the story of her realization that she is all that and more (gay). Musing upon her most formative relationships as a through line, she shepherds her audience through her darkest, most disturbing fantasies of revenge, love, birth and transcendence. It's a portal, it's shadow work. It's a way to find out: 'Who here would f*ck me?'

Sophia is incredibly engaging and all too relatable especially if you are a lost gay. If you happen to be a lesbian who has ever briefly considered the few and bleak avenues to raising/having a child, you will be absolutely gagged by this show. You WILL be thinking about boundaries, which of course is always a good reminder. Sophia is both “working on setting more boundaries” and simultaneously being quite vulnerable with the audience, which was genuinely a really lovely gift. She wraps up this gorgeous performance with truely unforgettable striptease, which I do keep thinking about. Of course, WE LOVE PERFORMANCE ART and Sophia really reminds us of why :)

I caught this show by surprise and absolutely loved not only the show, but how could I not enjoy the comedian that is Sophia!
Sophia's humour is unapologetic, beautifully quirky and timed to perfection in delivery. We were all in fits of laughter!
Do not miss this show - you will walk away comedically fulfilled.
And Sophia - yes, I would use poison! :-)

Sophia's show 'It Gets Worse' was a highlight for me and my partner during Fringe. Unapologetically honest and brutally funny, Sophia has a charisma that could engage even the most sceptical audience member.

This show is a must see for all queers, performance artists, and those with an open heart and desire for the dramatic side of life, love, and exploration of self. Gays, this show is for you !!

Ultimately, this is a show not to be missed.

Sophias show is a must see for any queers looking for a truly good night. It’s captivating and had me questioning all my deepest and darkest thoughts to core. It’s refreshing to see a show which not only allows you to laugh the performer but also allows the audience to choose how they would kill you. Thankfully I don’t think Cleary has to worry about death too much… as the show will have you hooked in for the hour, laughing and taking the occasional breath, all leading up to what I would say is the best finale to any Fringe Show.

Nobody puts baby in the corner, but Sophia puts baby somewhere else.

This was the PERFECT way to end my Festival. I’d met up with an old friend for a drink and just tagged along – well, how lucky was I?

This show goes to dark, dark places in the funniest way possible and Cleary is an absolute genius both in her writing and delivery. From the start I was belly laughing, then crying with laughter, then finding it quite hard to breathe. I was so grateful when the show ended as I was at the point where I thought I was going to vomit from laughing and then probably choke to death. Which would have been 100% on brand for this show.

Do not go if you have a fragile male ego or d*ck energy.

Do go if you want to step into the darkest recesses of funny.

If I didn’t hate LA so much I would move there and stalk her, just so she might write me into a future show.

I think this is what non-sexual, non-consensual love feels like.

Five stars! I stumbled upon this show somewhat randomly, and I am so glad I did. It may have been my favorite of the festival. Please go see it, you won’t regret it! This one is for the weirdos, or anyone on a ~healing journey~

This show is amazing. It is unexpected. It is vulnerable. And most importantly ITS HILARIOUS. Sophia is so genuine and unapologetically herself. This show left me wanting to know more about her and so excited to see what she does next. This performance will leave you rooting for Sophia and reflecting on it for days to come. She’s hilarious, please see her show.

Absolutely brilliant. Went not having heard anything about the show, got tickets last minute right before. Haven't laughed that much in a long time.

The perfect level of unhinged. Beautifully dark and wild. I was scared, inspired and aggressively soiling my pants from laughing. It’s a lot but you’ll want more.

Sophias show is aggressively raw, unapologetically honest and truly hiarious.

After binging through 4 shows on our first day of fringe, this was the one we couldnt stop talking about the next day.

We were seduced by the title, and this show lives up to its name in the most excellent way. Loved the levels of insanity - loved the chaos - go see this show people!
