Description

Based on the EP Kingdom Coming by Brit Award-winning singer and songwriter Emeli Sandé, Soon is the genesis of a new musical experiment which takes a groundbreaking, music-first approach to creating a live, performed event – part play, part music gig, part narrative. Jumping through time, from the 80s to the present day, an artist explores their past life experiences, mining gems to help define their artistic future. Eclipse will capture insights and learnings to influence the crafting of this innovative musical theatre piece, due for full production and national and international touring in 2024/25.

Whoever wrote the description for this show didn't actually watch it.

Most of the show is a band rehearsal - they're just pootling about on instruments, singing a couple of lines repetitively and having inane conversations about hamsters and chickens. And moving the drumkit around the stage over and over for no apparent reason.

There are then some odd scenes where (I think) 2 of them play the parents of 1 character and have some random arguments. No idea why.

And then it ends with a couple of songs.

It was a very long hour (and the first 5 minutes was just someone humming while we wondered if it had started or not)

Having prospected Fringe Shows for over 50 years I like to think I know Fringe Gold when I find it! ‘’Soon’ is mined from the brightest of seams - the performances are exceptional - don’t miss it!
