Description

It’s Edinburgh in the 1980s. High unemployment, rubbish working conditions and rampant sexism. Sound familiar? Meet Adele, Carole, Mel and Nicky – four waitresses at the Shakers cocktail bar. Playing a multitude of different characters – customers, checkout girls, lads out on a spree, lecherous media types and more – the girls lay bare the desperation underneath their cheerful public faces. Fast-moving, by turns hilarious and tragic, punctuated by music of the time, the play highlights how little the lives of women and those struggling to get by have changed over the decades.

A very fun time! With the cast playing both the servers and their customers you get to enjoy a wide variety of different characters within the hour, which means it’s fast paced, but not so much that there isn’t time for some important and poignant moments. A cracking little play with a solid cast. Particularly cathartic if you’ve worked in customer service!

Fantastic performances by the cast: great comic timing and poignant moments really brought their characters to life. Everything rang true, from their insecurities and fears to the hilariously awful customers - absolutely recommended.

Absolutely fabulous! Shakers was brilliant, hilarious but thought provoking from beginning to end! Hilary Spier’s has created the dream team, each character nailed each character. The music, set, lighting and costumes were simple but just perfect. What’s next for this talented bunch of stars?

Show was so good I’m literally writing this as I’ve left the venue. Absolute must see play - hilarious from start to finish , flawless acting and the four girls timing, character and accent changes were perfect. As an 80s kid it had great nostalgia moments and some quite touching scenes. Never thought I’d hear C&A in a sentence
