Description

This critically acclaimed, award-winning comedy is back! Nigel Forde's 'sparkling script' and David Robinson's 'impressive Screwtape' (Stage) bring to life Lewis' classic book, which has sold millions of copies worldwide. Five shows only, don't miss out! The story is set in Professor Screwtape's study, where Hell is an Oxbridge university. The play follows Screwtape's attempts to train his junior devils, including his protégé Wormwood, in the fine art of temptation. It remains faithful to the original text, characters and themes created by Lewis and holds three Edinburgh Fringe Sell-Out Show Awards.

This is too good for TV. It's thought-provoking, fast-paced, brilliantly-acted and relies on the audience's intelligence so the impact of the performance lasts long after the play has ended. A superb adaptation of the Screwtape Letters and I'm not just saying this because the lead actor has the same name as me :-)

★★★☆☆ Enjoyable, despite the flaws

THE GOOD
* Script Tested by Time. Wit, pace, and devilish ponderings held up pretty well.
* Devil in the Details. Screwtape's performance was simply sinful – from his commanding presence to the mesmerising monologues.

THE NOT SO GOOD
* Echoing Ears. The church venue made the monologues sound like they were bounced off Hell's walls.
* Divine Drop-off. Act II was more sermon than satire, missing that witty critique of human existence present in Act I.
