Description

Award-winning political theatre based on the movie about the harmless, loser boxer Rocky, who against all odds defeats his own inferiority and unreasonable loser life. He has all the wrong opinions, though fortunately no airtime. But what happens when he breaks character and gains power? Rocky! is fiercely entertaining and will swipe you off your feet. 'Left me speechless and with a hammering heart' ***** (Scenekanten.com). 'This experience proved to me that theatre is able to deal with the most problematic discussions of zeitgeist and power' ***** (Berlingske).

I honestly don't see why everyone thinks it's so good. The writing thinks it's way better than it actually is - the moralism is incredibly entry level (the middle classes supposedly standing up for the working classes but simultaneously patronising and demeaning them - yeah, we've known this for a long time guys), it's way too slow to get going, it has allusions to rape, homophobia and racism without the payoff of an actual point. So it just seems like it was made by an edgelord who really just wants to be offensive and shocking so he pretends he's breaking some kind of mould (I've seen way more shocking things do it way better).

This piece is exclusively made for white people who think they're smarter than everyone else. The fact that it knows this doesn't make it clever. And at the end of the day, platforming a nazi is platforming a nazi.

This piece is not for everyone, but for those who appreciate the theatre as a serious form of art, Rocky! will stay with you. Best performance I’ve seen at fringe so far.

Exceptionally brave performance dealing with an important subject. Stunning writing and visually clever, with powerful imagery that will stay with you. Good theatre should shock and challenge your current view and this certainly does.
