Description
Don't miss Scena Theatre’s wild parable based on the famous Franz Kafka short story. An ape, Red Peter, has evolved to behave like a human. He presents his fascinating tale of transformation and the horrid details of his former ape life to a top scientific Academy. Based on the classic story by the master of existential storytelling, Franz Kafka. Adapted by acclaimed German director Gabriele Jakobi. Robert McNamara’s return to the stage is riveting as he brings this wild parable to life. He'll compel you to ponder the issues of free will, animal cruelty and vegetarianism. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Another rendition of Kafka's Monkey. This monkey is rather an elderly gentleman who has come a long way from his existence as an ape, but time after time it bitterly takes him over. This show somehow left a long-lasting aftertaste - we saw it the other day and my mind still keeps going back to it. Grab it too!

Take a story by Kafka and a truly riveting stage performance, what’s not to like? This is great theatre.

As best as we can tell, an old man tells a scientific academy of his captivity when an ape. His performance is so full of artifice and cryptic descriptions that the people I spoke with afterwards just shook their heads in disbelief. It didn’t help that he had the habit of dropping the ends of his sentences into unheard whispers.
This is the least enjoyable of the 68 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. I hope to see almost 200. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/
