Description
What happens when you fall so deeply into another’s world that you forget who you are? A one-woman experimental exploration of identity, self-worth, body image and relationships' residing imprint on the individual, through passionate verse, music, movement and karaoke. This confessional style of storytelling feels like a much overdue catch up with an animated friend, underpinned by moments of crisis and self-deprecating comedy. Pinched is an imperfect, unresolved piece, developing and transforming to better explore contemporary issues. At its heart, this is a celebration of individuality and the beauty of rediscovering our unbridled selves. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. The most moving piece of theatre I've seen at the Fringe. Beautiful writing, real connection with the audience, powerful story telling that feels raw and real and human. I laughed, cried and left feeling hopeful and inspired. So, so beautiful.

I came to Pitched knowing nothing about the artist or piece, which in a way is the best way to discover something new: no expectations. Emma was effortlessly engaging and as she took us on her journey I was gently invited to join her in her pain, confusion, angst and redemption. I was moved to tears at times, especially by moments of movement and song. The more vulnerable she became the more visible and loveable she was.
Would thoroughly recommend!

Pinched is brilliantly written and performed. It is intense, honest, sometimes painful and sometimes very funny. We are shown human experience in the raw. But filtered through the rhyming and naturalistic script the experience is made accessible, funny and warm as well as uncomfortable. Emma’s performance is especially assured, even as she shows us real vulnerability and the intimacy of the venue is used to draw us further into the character’s experiences. The mixed media gives this thought-provoking gem an authentic boost of originality. The karaoke moment is brilliant! Five stars, don’t miss this show!!

I saw this show at its previews in London and was blown away by its originality and authenticity. The performer establishes a really great relationship with the audience, and the twists and turns of the story are both compelling and told in a refreshing and creative way that I had not seen before. Make sure you catch this show if you want to see a bold new voice at the start of what I’m sure will be a lauded career.
