Description

Brand-new, non-verbal immersive comedy show, created by award-winning Belfast comedian and clownarchist, Paul Currie. This show fuses physical clowning, music, contemporary dance, non-verbal comedy vignettes and crowd participation on a grand scale, utilising and subverting everyday objects and everyday life without having to utter a single word. Paul will show how he uses comedy to elevate his mental health and deep depression through laughter in this true sympathy of silly. Shtoom is a unique, surrealist, Dadaesque performance punk musical. 'Best comedy I saw was Paul Currie' ***** (Stewart Lee). 'Gloriously funny, Utterly unpredictable.. thrillingly silly…' ***** (Entertainment-Now.com).

Honestly my highlight of the fringe. I think the way Paul plays with audience expectations is just phenomenal and it's such a great live experience. Genuinely had me curled up in laughter. Absolutely sublime and I will be keeping an eye out for his future works.

Have seen each of Paul's shows over the past 6 years and is always the funniest show of the fringe. Cannot recommend this show enough it's just so refreshingly different and unique a live experience.

This was our favourite show of the fringe. So incredibly creative, a wonderful atmosphere, and just hilarious we were laughing the entire hour my face almost hurt by the end. At the beginning of each section you are not totally sure what is going on, and then all at once the penny drops and the whole audience is roaring.

Paul involves the audience in a really fun way (not scary or making you feel stupid at all) and by the end you all feel very bonded together as an audience - and that you have together been part of a really special and unique experience.

I would highly, highly recommend this show to anyone and I'm looking forward to seeing Paul perform again one day! Totally brilliant. Still thinking about about it and laughing.

The spirit of the Fringe in a boiler suit. My heart sings with wondrous joy every time I see him. Beautiful chaos.

The most unique comedy show I’ve ever seen at the fringe. Definitely the stand out show of the fringe for us! We are still talking about it days later. It’s impossible to describe the show, you just have to go and see it!

Paul Currie is the embodiment of the fringe, never to be seen on the telly, it doesn't even make sense trying to explain the show to someone afterwards, totally unexpected thoughtful and funny, in a sea of shows he's a strange wee island that you won't regret visiting :)

This guy always hits it out the park. Been a pleasure watching him hone his show over the last year leaving this sheer brilliant show! No one else can get someone, unprepared and a bit anxious, in under a minute, to be doing air guitar to the whole audience! Pure genius and a must see! ♥️

Oh he’s good, he’s VERY very good. Paul Currie is an absolute gem of a comedian, his delivery, imagination and energy are unrivalled. If you want to go to a show that will blow your socks off and have you roaring your head off with laughter go to this, and then go see him every year. If you like a quiet night in this is NOT for you, if you like things squeaky clean, this is NOT for you. Go with an open mind, don’t look anything up before you go and be prepared to laugh harder than you have in years. For me, Paul Currie is the epitome of what the Fringe is.

Fabulous. Hilarious. High octane. What skill.

This was simply one of the funniest hours of my life! If you can get to see him then please don’t hesitate. It’s mad, thoughtful, joyous, uplifting, hilarious and absolutely unique
Absolutely brilliant.
Thank you Paul. You have an amazing talent

Fabulously entertaining hour spent in the company of Paul Curie. A remarkable and extraordinary achievement to keep his audience entertained for an hour without saying a word - exhausting for him, he earned every penny. Go see this show and marvel at what the Edinburgh Fringe can deliver!

Came with my mum to see you on a whim sat on the front row and we both agree it was the best experience of the fringe we have i’ve never known someone to be able to captivate an audience like he did whilst not saying a word and not only captivating them but maintaining a constant presence and laugh out loud experience for the entire duration 10/10 show we will be coming to see you again.

Simply brilliant! You won’t see anything else like this anywhere! Funny and warm and the best audience rapport you’ve ever seen! Go!

The best thing I've ever seen, ever!

A maelstrom smashing together ecstasy with the mundane -- music and security lines, flight and cornflakes. An hour in Paul Currie's imagination is very life-affirming. I wish I had seen it more than once!

Silly, sublime and joyously funny and entertaining way to spend an hour. Second time seeing Paul and can’t wait for his next show. It was my partners first time seeing Paul and she cried with laughter all the way through. His presence, timing and ability is phenomenal. His show topped off a great fringe day out.

Chris Stanley 114 days ago

I think I've developed a new and unusual anxiety when I think about cornflakes.

I saw a lot of funny things at the Fringe this year, but nothing funnier than this. Go see it.

An hour of hilarious comedy that takes you on a very personal journey through the wonderfully creative mind of a beautiful soul. Without a single word. Not one. Genius.
Music, movement and the most manic facial expressions will keep you captivated, you might even be chosen to participate, don't be shy, dive right in!
I tend to stick to a similar type of stand up comedian at the Fringe, Paul's show isn't that, but it's always one of the first on the list! Love him.
If I can you give 2 little bits of advice..... do not hesitate to grab those umbrellas if you are lucky enough to sit at the front! And bring your own bread

Rediculous show. My friends and I loved it so much we were weeping with laughter. Paul doesn't need words to make you giggle for a solid hour

Shelby House 115 days ago

Unreal. I was in stitches from start to finish. Paul is a revelation, and his dedication to consent, kindness, and anarchic silliness makes this show an unbelievably joyous hour. I can barely articulate what this show "is" or what you can expect because I had no idea what would happen from moment to moment. A marvelous and refreshing feeling. Don't miss out on SHTOOM.

Annabel M 116 days ago

An absolutely incredible show! I highly recommend it, I cried laughing. It’s genius, you won’t see another show like it.

Another stellar show from Paul. Amazing clown work mixed in with a healthy dose of audience tomfoolery. An hour of pure joy! Definitely one to add to your itinerary.

I never thought a comedy show with no words would make me laugh as much as this one did. Brilliant audience interactions. Definitely worth checking out.
