Description
A thought-provoking exploration into the nature of communication and consent. The story follows Michaela, a young woman with a fatal brain tumour. She is offered the chance to have life-saving surgery. The surgery does indeed save her life, however it leaves Michaela with a condition that strips her of language: fluent aphasia. What follows is an unrelenting ethical dilemma as we follow Michaela’s recovery. What is saving a life worth? What are the risks when love morphs into control? This is one play you definitely won’t want to miss! ‘Such a moving piece’ **** (Angel Lloyd). Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. My 16 year old grandson and I were really moved by these thought-provoking insights into the awful consequences of losing speech after neurosurgery to remove a brain tumour. Great script, direction and acting all served to dramatise the terrifying isolation imposed by the abrupt loss of the ability to communicate verbally, and the solace to be secured through music and dance. Hopefully, the caricature of the married neurosurgeon with a God-complex operating on his mistress is historical licence but all professions continue to harbour a small number of narcissists and crooks. A really cool play.

So glad we took a chance on this show. The writing is incredible. I found it really moving too. And such an interesting subject and story, told in an original way. Would definitely recommend.

A moving portrayal of vulnerability and loss told through a unique storyline and unpretentious performances. Michaela -at times - moved me to tears.

Best theatre I’ve seen in years! A heart-tugging emotional tour de force! Had me on the edge of my seat the entire hour. Euphoric. Deeply relevant exploration of love, language and relationship — particularly relevant to the world we live in today. Uplifting!
