First time seeing Marjolein, been meaning to go for the last few fringes.
Nice show.
Her strength is in her story telling, Shetland heritage, and we got some of that - quite unique in a festival dominated by aussie, American and English comics.
What didn’t work so well for me was the emotional rollercoaster presentation, the sad bit near the end, followed by the bounce back and jubilant end. It was fine, but it seems like this is now the established format, and it gets boring after watching many others with the same approach…. But hey ho, that’s the comedy industry, and this is a trade fair, so it’s understandable that performers will have to make product to fit the market, and this is what the market wants apparently. At least half the audience loved it…. The other half not so.
If you’re looking for delightful Shetland vibes, you’ll like it… if you’re looking for a personal story of female empowerment you’ll love it.
Nice show overall.

Marj is beautiful.

This show is beautifully crafted and genuinely thought provoking. I’ve never watched a comedian layer ethereal storytelling, personal trauma, humour, light and shade in the way Marjolein does. I can see her becoming one of the shows we seek out every year at the fringe.

The comedy was in part about sending a message. Half the audience were laughing. Not my type of comedy.

Last year's show, Thank God Fish Don't Have Hands, was excellent, but this is Marjolein's most personal, powerful and well crafted show yet (and still funny, warm and enjoyable!) Hopefully it'll get the award nominations it deserves and propel her onto bigger things.

There are two reasons to see this show:
First it is very very funny
Second it will stay with you
Ms. Robertson is deft in every way with the one-liner or the beautiful setup, but she takes the show to the next level with an honesty about darkness that had the audience entranced.
Therahumor has been a Netflix-honeypot for famous comedians recently, but it is more I-fucked-up! bravado than honest sharing. Ms Robertson does the latter and more, never losing her audience. (Krystal Evans treads the same ground excellently)
Calling it “brave” seems patronizing. What she does is advance art.

Powerful and brave. Watching the dots connect is an absolute joy, this show is such a triumph in storytelling.

Phenomenally brave show - works a weaving narrative with jokes that are punchy, fleet, fun, and hugely believable into a raw and exposed punchline. Absolutely fantastic show with such relatability and great confidence and character. Loved every minute! Also a delight to chat to afterwards!

An unexpectedly touching and powerful stand-up performance that really felt meaningful and personal. But also delightfully funny. I loved the integration of Shetlands folklore, and the winding anecdotes - but I will remember this show for its moving reflection on abuse, and its powerful conclusion.

Each time I've seen Marjolein perform, I've had an amazing time and this time was no difference. Incredibly funny and also through the use Shetland folk tales and personal stories with an great message to the show, this show is worth your money and time to see. Looking forward to seeing more of what's to come.

A must see; strange, hilarious, engaging and smart. So good that we booked to see her other show too....'Me, myself and Mary'. That was just as good; thank you for 2 days of excellent entertainment!

First saw Marjolein at last years very well received show but this one tops that! No spoilers here, go check it out for yourself. You'll be very glad you did.

Funny and surprisingly touching! Marjolein is a captivating storyteller who mixes together stand up, Shetland folklore and a deeply personal message to create a truly original show that you will be thinking about for a long time after you’ve left!

Very funny, very brave.
I have been waiting years to see Marjolein and she didn't disappoint. I was expecting an hour of normal-for-Marjolein humour and we got mostly that (which was very funny, naturally) but she also performed a courageous handbrake turn into more personal territory. It was a gamble but one which, for me, paid off.
Terrific value. What's the worst that can happen? She picks on you for not watching a soap opera.
