I would advise against attending this show if you are a person of colour, particularly if you are Asian.

I attended the show with my girlfriend who is from an asian background. She was the only person of colour in the audience. The comedian encourages a member of the audience to come on stage and impersonate a Chinese takeaway worker. On the night we attended, the audience member did a crass and frankly racist impression. You can imagine.

To be the only person of colour in a room of white people laughing at a racist impression of Asian people was a disappointing and sad experience for my girlfriend to have in 2019. It definitely ruined her evening and I am writing this for her for that reason.

What is more, the other non-white character in the comedian's story was a 'Thai groom' who can only say 'I love you'.

I understand that inviting the audience to be racist reflects more on them if they do it, etc and that the show inventively caricatures the comedians desperation and flips the mockery onto the audience...but this was a deeply unpleasant experience for her and completely unacceptable.

This show is excellent; original and brave - the format means it’s going to be different every night and Luke needs to weather anything that comes along which he does with wry wit and a skilled, economical delivery.

I can only assume the review below is a joke (probably by Luke himself who seems to be a master of self-effacing irony)

deeply lazy writing that relied heavily on racist stereotypes. Really upsetting. Do not watch.

There’s a nonchalance to Luke McQueen that makes it hard to know how to take him. This could be his best gig of the run, or it could be the worst. That bit could be working, or maybe it’s not. That guy in the front row who needed little prompting...

This is the hottest venue I have ever been in, so Mr McQueen deserves considerable commendation for keeping the audience awake and engaged. He acknowledged the fact the room was a sauna, and this – and his unwavering energy in … Read More ...
