Description

Fringe favourite Lucy returns with another fantastic stand-up show. At Brownies, Lucy thought she'd be prepared for anything as long as she had her emergency 10p for a phone box and knew how to tie a fisherman's knot. Life turned out to be slightly more complicated than Brown Owl let on. 'A treat from start to finish' (Herald). 'Impeccably punch-lined anecdotes... Genuinely delightful' (Telegraph). Recent TV appearances include Would I Lie to You, QI and Impossible, she's a regular on Radio 4's News Quiz and The Now Show. Limited run, book early!

First time we’d seen this experienced stand-up comedian live – in her show majoring on her experiences of the scouting movement now and in the distant past. She finds humour in the usual, the mundane and very mundane and hence is very relatable for the whole hour. She is funny while being warm and friendly and lovely to everyone and that’s not easy to pull off when most comics use some form of attack. We left feeling chirpy and happy despite exiting into a deluge. Lucy announced that we had won her prize for “sexiest audience at the Fringe”. Perhaps we could return the favour by announcing that she has won our coveted annual “performer we would most like as our next-door neighbour” award for 2019.

A very comfortable show, packed with humour about life experience. Did someone mention Beavers?? Highly recommended.

A wonderfully funny show, based around Lucy's experience as a Brownie in the 1980s and her children's current involvement with the Beavers - and thank goodness she doesn't shy away from making jokes about how inappropriate that name is in 2019! It's also a moving tribute to her old Brown Owl, and illustrates the importance of always being prepared with a pashmina and an umbrella.

Little point in reviewing Lucy as she’s already sold out her entire run, but that probably tells you everything you need to know.

Hi Lucy – great show this year (although the one about your stalker remains my favourite). Wonderfully funny, warm and somehow sarcastic and kind at the same time. It wouldn’t be the Fringe without you. BTW, Tom Lehrer on the way out was a nice touch.

If there is anyone nicer than Lucy Porter, then it would be suspicious.

The show is a love letter to growing up with a sense of community and what it meant to be part of something. You can't ask for more than that reminder of what it is liked to be prepared, whether for life or a broken bone.

Lucy had to deal with some external factors and she did brilliantly, holding everyone's attention with a fine show.

A must-see.

The Wee Review (4/5 stars) 82 days ago

Lucy Porter welcomes us in her own friendly, bubbly style for an hour of giggles, guffaws and belly laughs. Her comedy is inoffensive, cleverly written and is a joy for the whole hour. Approximately one third of women in the UK were in Brownies (the second youngest section of Guiding)...

Lucy’s shows usually follow a theme and this year is no exception. The show is basically all about the Brownies, with all the associated beaver and Brown owl jokes that you might expect. Lucy’s shows are very reliable and friendly … Read More...

One of the funniest and most relaxed storytellers and audience-interacters in the business, she expertly mines her family life and the virtues of forward-planning for laughs, and even hands out merit badges to the grateful crowd in what (dimwit electronics aside) is a perfect venue for her uniquely convivial brand of comedy.

Before even taking the stage, Lucy Porter announces that we’ve won the ‘Sexiest Audience at the Fringe’ award, so you know we’re onside by the time she grabs the mic. Be Prepared is based on the Scout motto, but the show itself is also much more Scout-themed than you might...
