Description

EU leaders swap negotiations for disco, tassels and glitter in this 'razor sharp blend of burlesque and comedy' (EdFestMag.com). In a bawdy display of razzmatazz, Merkel, May and friends rip it up and lip-sync for the leadership. Also featuring Lolly (BBC Three, ITV, and Comedy Central) as Marine Le Pen, Nicola Sturgeon and probably her mum (if she agrees to it). 'This provocative political satire is astounding' **** (List). 'Niche burlesque at its best' **** (WeeReview.com). 'Bizarrely euphoric... guaranteed to leave you wanting more' **** (EdFestMag.com). 'Had the audience in hysterics' **** (FunnyWomen.com).

This was pants-wettingly funny territory. The concept is simple yet brilliant and wonderfully executed!

This show was my partners choice and he doesn't usually pick well, but this choice has redeemed him. I laughed so hard I cried. It's so well rehearsed, the routines were polished and slick. Go and you won't be disappointed.

The perfect edfringe show, an hour of entertainment with talented performers bringing a brilliant concept to life. Merkel moving like Darth Vader on a hover board is only a small part of the talents displayed, three fantastic performers power through the piece with gusto. A must see show. My wife says this review sounds like a pompous Sunday Times report, but I thought the show was great.

Great show. Brexit is almost acceptable with these ladies.

Kelly 99 days ago

Brilliant. Very topical whilst worryingly sexy. My boyfriend keeps talking about Lollys young dancers. Lolly was a sensational gal as well!

Exactly as you want your Satire to be at this festival; daft, dynamic & very very funny! The audio is real, the visuals are hilarious bombastic caricatures. Who knew you can dance to politics!? Loved this show ×♡×

Normally Brexit is the kind of topic that gets you into arguments with internet strangers. When Lolly Jones tackles the political issue of our times, however, you get hot under the collar for a very different reason. The hottest takes on politics come flying thick and fast in this burlesque...

I Believe in Merkels is the exact downfall of British politics, but with a lot more boob. I’m not one to watch politicians debate in the House Of Commons but last time I checked there were less feather boas, no nipple tassels and nobody dancing around in lingerie; and they wonder why they don’t get the young vote!?

Lolly Jones’s I believe in Merkels is the kind of performance you wouldn’t want to miss.

Seriously sharp satire meets deliciously surreal visual spectacle in a thoroughly enjoyable hour. The music is great too; real euro trash. Without giving too much away, one of the absolute highlights is Merkel’s chosen mode of transportation. You’ll have to see it for yourself.

Lolly allows us simply to observe history unfolding in front of us, laying bare the catastrophic folly, hubris, and pride present in the current British political system.

I could go on for pages, such is the sheer precision and attention to detail present in every aspect of this unique, instant Fringe classic, which had the audience on their feet for a standing ovation at the end.

Lolly Jones’s I believe in Merkels is the kind of performance you wouldn’t want to miss. It’s playing at Assembly Roxy every day of the Fringe @ 20:00. Does it take your mind off all the awful things happening in our country? No. But it does make them a hell of a lot funnier.
