Description
Lear Alone uses just King Lear’s lines from the First Folio of Shakespeare’s tragedy to explore themes of loneliness, ageing and homelessness: a study of one man's vulnerability as he confronts and negotiates a digital world. Created in partnership with Crisis UK and supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Lear Alone is the theatrical realisation of And Tomorrow Theatre Company's Off West End Award-winning web series. 'LEAR ALONE asks for a theatre that is unafraid to be explicit about its moral and political persuasions: a theatre that refuses to leave any one on their own.' Super performance, especially if you know Lear, and I suspect even if you don't. Shakespeare's words take on a different meaning when heard from a lonely man going through a similar but more modern crisis. Compellingly performed.

Lear is a homeless man in crisis. In some ways he has no-one but himself to blame. He is an actor on the run from himself, his vile daughters and even his precious Cordelia. He destroys everything he loves.
This is a tour de force by Edmund Dehn. He is word perfect. The triplex theatre is exactly the right intimate space to allow him and Shakespeare to work on your imagination. Do go and immerse yourselves.

A wonderful and moving one man show of Lear's most significant moments. He is able to bring great depth to Lear, showing Lear's sorrow, arrogance, anger, and madness. For fans of traditional Shakespeare this is definitely worth a visit.
