A good original play. Two story lines seemed somewhat disconnected at points. The relationship with Luke, and the family plot line with Kyle seem very foreign until the climax of the play. Having said this, Luke’s (Redmayne) brilliant performance subtly masks this story incongruity. His performance includes precise yet discreet nods to his characters eventual character reveal.
Overall I enjoyed the play. Rebecca and Luke’s interaction was certainly the strong point.

A brilliantly written piece of drama! Very distinct, complex and likeable characters that discover more about themselves in a poignant story. I highly recommend watching this truly masterful performance. Well done!

I was lucky enough to watch The Last Words in its pre-Edinburgh Run! I was so impressed with the acting which helped to capture the complicated family dynamics, whilst also providing a few much needed light hearted moments that helped to ground the intensity of the story. The direction was impactful with many of the stand out scenes involving moments without dialogue that alone conveyed the developing relationships within the performance. The set and sound design was a highlight for me as it created a real atmosphere the moment you stepped into the space and it was clear all of the design elements had been thoughtfully chosen to support the performance. If you have the opportunity, definitely go and watch The Last Words at the Fringe this summer!

I viewed the pre-Edinburgh run and it was great! It was full of mystery and intrigue but with a good reflection of family dynamics and friendships formed in the face of trauma. The acting was amazing from all characters and was directed very well! I would highly recommend this play, such a unique plot and very well written!
