Joe Bates Speaks Truth to Power Tools

Comedy (political)

Venue Age Restriction: Strictly 18+

Description

At the beginning of 2020 Joe Bates (BBC Radio 4Extra, Chorts 2021 finalist) started taking anti-depressants to check if things in the world were as bleak as they seemed or whether he just had a medical condition. Turns out things really are that bleak, but now the meds have kicked in, he's feeling really positive about it all. ln this solo stand-up show he finds the upsides of bad news.

Really enjoyed seeing Joe and hearing that wonderful northeast accent today. Not only did he have me chuckling over his dads absent parenting but also his experiences with the NHS. This goes to prove Joes ability to craft witty comedy from some pretty depressing experiences which a lot of us can relate too.

Joe Bates is such a lovely funny man that he even makes politics a laugh. REALLY enjoyed his show and honestly deserves way more audience than it gets.

One of the best shows I've seen at the Fringe. Very funny, lots of good material, adapted it to the audience too. Highly recommend!

Went to see Joe because I got to the venue early and he was performing before the show I had planned. I’m so glad I did! Definitely one to watch out for in the future.

Incredibly funny, personable and clever. Just the right mix of real life, politics and silliness.

Not quite enough power tools.

Highly recommended! I was not expecting such a great show in a Free Fringe event - great gag rate, sharp writing, a light touch on politics, but not enough to ruin your mood... I probably laughed more than at some of the more expensive shows I paid to see, and it contained some of my favourite oneliners in the festival!
