[No relation, btw]
This is a really sublime hour of stand up: topics & ideas are all super-current, but delivery, audience interaction and structure is all old school: spot on timing, holding the mood, never stepping on her own punchlines.

Content is no-holds-barred: she gets properly body-fluidy (thankfully only verbally). Period jokes are always room dividers, but it usually divides the room between men and women, not between those who can take it and those who are praying she will change the subject. I have genuinely dated women for months about whose cycles I know less than after one hour with Jenny. 10/10 for honesty in her comedy. I was impressed by her confidence, given how visceral the material was.

In that venue, addressing the noise from next door is a good idea, but the dog fight material is too disproportionately nasty (it’s a lot more upsetting than the noise, which Fringe audiences are well used to). That’s the one wrong note in a very well judged and hilarious set, which despite taking in pretty much every sex act and the attendant body fluids produced, is always funny and never offensive. I think this is due to Jenny’s personality as much as her technique. Maybe that’s the same thing. She cultivates a sweet-girl-from-the-valleys persona which gives her plenty of Likeable & Charming in the bank…. even when you can’t believe what just came out of that sweet innocent face. Smiling.

In a brilliantly executed finale, she went to, well, what must be at least 11th base with her audience.

I will definitely see her again, but God knows she hasn’t saved much for the 2nd date!

Highly recommended.

Most of this show is your basic common-or-garden stand-up; nothing fancy, just solid material delivered by an experienced performer. Where Ms Collier lights up – and to which her audience respond with burgeoning enthusiasm – is in discussing, in blunt … Read More ...
