An epic adventure told with a thousand pieces of cardboard. A great actor recounts his journey from the fjords of Iceland to the dust of the Spanish desert. Cursed by the mermaid he once accidentally caught and speaking a language no one quite understands, he is aided by one fellow performer to tell his tale. Monty Python meets Mighty Boosh with a twist of Laurel and Hardy. Pure theatrical joy. From the creators of Edinburgh's smash-hit physical comedy Fishbowl. Molière Theatre Award winner 'Serious theatre magic.' ‘Best Theatre in Europe’ (NewYorkTimes)

A truly surreal, and generally wordless (well not spoken in any real language, romp of a show. The most clever use of cardboard since, hey probably forever. So clever, so funny, and such hard work from the extraordinary cast of 2 (and their exceptionally hard working crew).

WHAT. A. SHOW. An incredible concept executed with insane precision and energy. You were the highlight of EdFringe 2023 (as you were with FISHBOWL in 2019). Your talents know no bounds and I am already bored waiting for the next thing you will dream up. An exceptional piece of theatre. Congratulations.

So imaginative, and what an incredible amount of work behind, to make it look simple! I cried with laughter, I was moved, I was admiring these two incredible actors and all the previous work involved.
It´s a pity that the Fringe is finishing, because I would be recommending it non stop to anyone that would listen to me, every day.
Standing ovation at the end, laughter throughout the whole show.
Thank you for these incredible 75 minutes, guys! Waiting to see you again next year!

Laugh and gasp and laugh again. Incredible theatricality, amazing performances and yes....more and more laughter. Cardboard eh? So glad the stage crew got a curtain call too.

An Amazing SHOW! to be a fly on the wall and see how they designed it and how the clean up afterward and put it all back together would be worth a price to admission again. Funny and silly and shear entertainment. Imaginative. The only thing I wondered why was the bear's feet not cardboard. Go and bring a can of COKE.

A wonderful show! Think Mr Bean crossed with Pingu, with a helping of Laurel and Hardy thrown in. Brilliant physical comedy, and an extraordinary range of creative uses for cardboard!

Carola Martin-Smith 38 days ago

Just amazing! A brilliant show. Go see it!

What do you get when you cross Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Marty Feldman, and some Moliere clowning. Completely hilarious. The two have great chemistry on stage. What seems improvised can’t be, but everything is done so natural and so quick. Definitely the funniest show we’ve seen here. Highly recommend.

I have not laughed so much in years!!! High Layreeyusss!!!

Takes slapstick to a new level. REALLY funny and incredibly ever. The performances and skills of the cast (as well as the backstage crew) will live in my memory until they nail my lid down.

Clowning of the highest order. Utterly brilliant. Best of the 40 shows I saw at this years Fringe

Masterful physical comedy, clever use of props and set (all cardboard), brilliant comedic timing, and sublime silliness—an absolute feast for the funny bone. This is a show that keeps surprising, even when you are well into the performance and expect the clever surprises. They even manage some poignant—somewhat transgressive—political commentary. This is a genre-defying romp that comes out the clear winner of the 12 shows I managed to see in 4 days. Go see it!!

We were at the festival, feasting on the fringe and without a doubt. The Ice Hole is the show which stole our hearts. A smorgasbord of fun is to be had when watching this fantastic little comedy. You just don't know quite how they came up with it all but we are so glad they did. Side splittingly funny!
And it is all recyclable!!

Gorgeous cardboard bonanza, a truly inventive show and very well executed. One of our favourite shows at the Fringe.

Laughed till I cried! I don’t know how to describe this show. It was brilliant. Like nothing I’ve seen before. A highlight of our Fringe this year. Well done

Brilliantly innovative and very funny show, involving a lot of cardboard and miming. I think it was a little bit too long - it was 1hr 15mins, could have done with being limited to 1hr as the jokes start to get a bit old after a while! Still, it was a very enjoyable afternoon and I would highly recommend going.

Absolutely fabulous - not the sort of show I would normally book, but this had me laughing from start to finish.

We love this cardboard comedy! It's a change from all the other shows we've seen! We laughed a lot, the artists give their all and take us on a journey with them! We were amazed by the inventive cardboard sets!

Zany, inventive, laugh out loud funny. Having said that, my husband hated it. Marmite I guess.

I'd seen the advertising posters but they switched me off - how wrong was I! The show was recommended to me in a bar & I made a last minute booking & certainly did not regret it. It gets a 5 stars from me - just brilliant.

David Gardiner 48 days ago

Brilliant and hugely entertaining. It's a long time since I've laughed so much! 5 stars.

A simple idea, but really not enough to make a show. Mildly amusing at best, repetitive at worst.

Kell Cowley 48 days ago

One of the easiest shows ever to recommend. Just pure invention and delight from start to finish. In this physical comedy, two men speaking mostly in gobbledegook, go on a chaotic journey across Europe with all their props, set and scenery (and sometimes their costume) being rendered with hundreds of pieces of cardboard. It has to be seen to be believed how invested you will become in this wacky cardboard world and its many & varied characters. This is absurdist theatre magic at its best.

Great show - clever, fast paced and appeals to all ages - see it

Brilliant brilliant brilliant! It is sheer theatrical genius- In every way! Inventive and clever and the epitome of theatre magic. I loved every second and have recommended to everyone who stops still long enough for me to say -“Go and See The Ice Hole! It is the best thing I have seen in the theatre for years!” Loved it! So so so funny and charming and clever. I laughed and laughed. What a pair of performers- and what a backstage company to get all of that to happen in one hour! Hats off to you. Stunning hilarious joyful fun! Standing ovation when I was there… truly well deserved!!!

Ross Fraser 49 days ago

Utterly inventive and funny, featuring an incomprehensible Icelander in a suit who falls in love with a paper-finned, bearded mermaid in a cardboard world.

Unpack your theatrical possibilities with this one.

Gundula Thiel 53 days ago

Absolutely hilarious. Very clever. Very absurd. I laughed through the entire performance. It was absolutely exhausting. So brilliant!

BCH 54 days ago

Exhaustingly brilliant. Haven’t seen a show this clever and funny for ages, am in awe of the actors! Took kids even though it was 12+ and there were just a couple of fruity bits but kids adored it. Was just maybe 15 mins too long as watching it is so full on.

Julie 54 days ago

I totally recommend! Very original, particularly well orchestrated. I laughed a lot!
