Description

Irish-born Phyllis was one of only two New Zealand women ever to have been honoured with France's highest decoration, the Légion d'Honneur, for extreme bravery in WWII. She spoke of bombs screaming overhead, crawling around the hospital tents on their knees, the constant stream of wounded and dying soldiers. Not all her stories were tragic, most had a lighter side, a twist, a punchline. Award-winning director and actor Kate JasonSmith brings to life the dramatic and often humorous tale of her mother's life in this acclaimed show about war, courage and romance.

A must see. Phyllis’ story as told by her daughter is both moving and uplifting. The performance is excellent and really brings her experiences to life.

Saw this show this morning on our last day. Wonderful to hear this amazing woman’s story told by her very talented daughter. In a small venue but that added to the feeling we were privileged to hear about her life.

We loved this show and it was the highlight of our fringe. It majors on the role of nurses in WW2 which should not be forgotten . This is a one women show by the daughter of the nurse involved in France and the evacuation of Belsen. Wonderful show and so moving

Subtitled “My Mother the War Hero”, I’ll Tell You This for Nothing is a sweetly-crafted memory play in which actor Kate JasonSmith pays tribute to her own mother Phyllis’s life, in particular her service as a nurse during the Second World War. ...
