'I love the seriousness and the humour' (Benjamin Zephaniah). 'An exceptional force' (John McGrath, Artistic Director at National Theatre Wales).

I went to see Dominic perform his show last week and I’ve been meaning to write a review ever since. The performance stuck in my head but I wanted to get my words down on paper properly before posting a review. Here it is:

Dominic Berry’s ‘I Can Make You Fail Slightly Less’ is very funny, emotional, witty......and also poignant in places. The show introduces us to Dominic’s world growing up and how his self-penned choose-your-own-adventure stories (which I found a fascinating premise) helped to shape/guide his life.

Dominic is clearly a master of words and knows exactly how to use them to evoke various emotions from the audience. I found his performance both captivating and inspiring. He had me laughing (a lot!), close to tears on occasion and I even helped the direction of the show at one point whilst using his very own choose-your-own-adventure book to help decide mine (and everyone else’s) fate. The fact that I ‘died’ in a hilarious way just added to my amusement!

I came out of the show feeling uplifted and full of enthusiasm! And that’s down to Dominic and his performance. I think the show really does do what it says on the tin.....a show that can help you to feel like you’ll fail slightly less at life ;)

Loved it! Recommend!! :)

This show is a delight - full of heart and charm. Dominic Berry interacts with the audience with warmth and welcome and makes them all feel better about themselves. There is enough authentic, personal detail here to make it poignant and to feel that he has invested of himself - indeed, his vulnerability is part of the charm - but never tries to milk it or turn it into a blowsy miseryfest. The tone is light and exuberant, but Berry still manages to make incisive comment about commercialism and the blame culture. The poetry is great - the extended He Man metaphor was one of many high points - and the performance is a tour de force. A must see!

This is a wonderful, heart warming and hilarious show that I cannot recommend more highly. Dominic is a brilliant performer and exceptional human being. I left the performance feeling enthused, refreshed and invigorated. Brilliant stuff.

Dominic performs with gusto and passion and the most wonderful occasional asides to the audience. His show is a masterclass in the ability of spoken word to entertain while also telling a story of tenderness and emotion. I would heartily recommend this show to anyone!

I loved spending time with happy, fun, cheeky, zingy Dominic Berry. Some shows offer you a 'cup of tea' feeling, this show was like some Lucozade when you're ill (back when Lucozade was good for illnesses.) I left feeling cheerful and energised. I made friends with other audience members. The venue was calm and clean- a secret oasis away from the main street. The best bits of spoken word and storytelling happened- I was moved emotionally, I thought about my own life choices, I did lots of laughing and tapped into my inner teenager. Think bums, Mums, He-man, choose-your-own-adventure books, teenage parties and failing spectacularly.

We loved this. It’s loud, shouty in places but funny and touching at the same time. While it might not necessarily help with my dream of better parallel parking, it was an ultimately uplifting way to spend the hour.

Superb writing and a fully committed performance of a joyous and effervescent show. A delight from start to finish in the company of a captivating poet!

Wonderfully silly and touchingly serious! A mix of poetry and storytelling that is completely engaging, funny and empathetic to the core. We loved it!

I Can Make You Fail Slightly Less takes the audience on a joyous poetic journey ... led by the exuberantly effervescent Dominic Berry. There is plenty of wit and silliness in the show, along with a whole lot of verbal dexterity. However, running through the entire show is also Dominic's genuine passion for encouraging us to be our best selves. It is a fun, funny and uplifting hour. Highly recommended!

A wonderfully warm, energetic and life-affirming spoken word show. If you like personal story-telling slam-poetry, you'll love this.
We saw this on Friday and highly recommend this thought-provoking show.

A fantastic 50 minutes of energetic performance poetry. Really funny and poignant at times, with excellent polysyllabic rhyming and improvisation. Dominic performed a brilliant tale with offshoots of clever poems throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable time.

Dominic Berry interacts with his audience before the show, which helps create a lovely communal feel for this charming and spirited performance. Berry frames the show with the ‘choose your own adventure’ books that helped him cope with his sense of differentness and isolation as a teenager, communicating his message...
