Description
Ageing violinist Alan Gottlieb sits at the back desk of the seconds, coasting towards retirement. But when an appraisal finds him wanting, he risks losing the thing that gave his life meaning. He reaches for inspiration from Bach, but when Bach reaches back, is this obsession or madness? A dark psychological drama from Two Foolish Productions explores how we find meaning when the world no longer thinks we’re relevant, to the sublime music of the B Minor Mass. Went to see this last night and absolutely loved it! An exquisitely written two hander about obsession, identity and ultimately the meaning of life all wrapped up in one man’s obsession with Bach. Chris Brannick’s lyrical script and the totally ‘on point ‘ acting of Chris Brannick and the brilliant Karen Kirkup in multiple roles, will leave you thinking long after the show is done.

An interesting story about a professional musician’s passion for music and approaching the end of a career. We really enjoyed this; the contrast of the beautiful music and the reality of the life events he goes through. The acting is superb throughout and the piece as a whole very absorbing. Highly recommended.

Clearly a labour of love, and affectingly acted by both performers, one playing an ageing orchestral musician, the other multiple roles (all well characterised). The script doesn't always live up to its subject matter (a big ask, admittedly) and sometimes veers jarringly between reaching for the stars and angry or frustrated vulgarity. Still, it makes many pertinent points, not just about the classical music 'industry "(a term the protagonist would reject) but about recognising when is the right time to move on and the difficulty of being moved on unwillingly in any workplace, and towards the end it touches on questions bigger still. An original show, well worth seeing.

For a lover of Bach and the B Minor Mass this was a real treat. Beautifully acted.

The music in this show is fabulous. But we were a bit disappointed in the script. The acting was good. I would not rush to see this.
