Description

Mark’s Gospel is our most authentic portrait of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Yet it was not supposed to be read piecemeal and in silence, but heard out-loud, and in one sitting. In this dynamic solo performance, Stefan Smart recreates the way the story was once narrated – as a full-bodied drama, with its many characters and nuances brought startlingly to life. So sit back, relax, and imagine being among Mark’s first audience, as you experience the story of Jesus as it was in the beginning, in all its urgency and power, challenge and comfort.

A magnificent word-for-word performance, using only a few simple objects. Stefan's skill allows you to engage with Mark's gospel in a completely new way, as it was meant to be told. His humility enables you to look through him and glimpse the glory that is Christ's work on earth. A must-see at the fringe!

I’m really swithering over the stars: three or four? In the end, I decided on four because it was a compelling performance which happened to be of material I knew too well for comfort. The Gospel According to St Mark is narrated ‘live as it happened’, as if for the...
