Description

Fierce, feminist, and f*cking funny. Women are frequently told they are too emotional – too hysterical – to be taken seriously, to be leaders of countries and companies, to be believed when pointing to their own hurt. Hysterical challenges these myths with poetry that confronts body politics, systemic sexism, and weeping uncontrollably in the supermarket. Winner of Best New Aotearoa Play and Outstanding Performance Poetry at Auckland Fringe. Internationally acclaimed poets Carrie Rudzinski and Olivia Hall deliver powerhouse performances that will leave you feeling empowered and alive.

Beautifully scripted, genuinely delivered with heart, grace, opinion, joy, laughter and pathos. Some shows preach and they are one note at that preaching and you get it pounded in your head and then you stop listening. This is a show that poetically, gorgeously and cleverly penetrates our brains, our souls, our hearts. WE get to choose how we feel about what they are saying; they set the table and we enjoy the meal. Thank you, ladies! Just brilliant!

What a raw, authentic, intimate show this is. Hidden gem of Summerhall, these incredible performers will move and inspire you unlike anyone else. Don’t walk! Run to see this. Electric writing, much deserved standing ovation when we saw it, happy and sad tears, genuine laughter. Left with a sense of hope and relief. Brilliant…

What a great show this is. Highly recommended.

I loved every minute of it and left with the uncomfortable realisation that my eyes have been wide shut to the pain and anguish of marginalisation for far too long.

This show is incredible. The writing is searing, hilarious, and heartfelt. And both poets are also fantastic performers in how they recite their writing, and in their banter between pieces. Empowering, supportive, creative and inspiring. Bring your best friend!

Exactly what I needed to hear, in the moment I needed to hear it. As if the universe had gifted me a favour.
