Description
The charisma of Beyoncé, the influence of Oprah and the wealth of the Kardashians: Cleopatra had it all. 31 BCE finds the most powerful woman in the ancient world, celebrating Egypt's triumph over Rome with an extravagant celebration. But outside the city walls, danger lurks and enemies plot her dynasty's end just as the party hits its crescendo. Set to an original high-octane pop score by Laura Kleinbaum and Jeff Daye, this immersive musical examines history's most mysterious ruler and mixes historical drama with an enveloping spectacle that will leave audiences guessing and grooving all night long. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. 5. “House of Cleopatra”
Set to an original pop score, with lyrics by Laura Kleinbaum and Jeff Daye and music by Daye, the new musical dives into the story of one of history’s most famous rulers—and how the all-powerful queen became Egypt’s last pharaoh. Mixing historical drama with visual spectacle, the musical is being produced by Alchemation, the team behind Edinburgh's breakout hit SIX the Musical. Eye-popping costumes, heart-throbbing choreography, and voices that soar and thrill, the only fault is the setting where the production chooses to have its audience stand like attendees at a dance party, making it very difficult often to see all the action on stage. But look for this premiere to have legs for a future hit to match that of “Six.”

Started off quite strangely, but all of a sudden it came Alive

Didn’t really work - the late start, mixed with the prospect of standing for an hour in a hot room was the first hurdle. No character understanding or development which was hard to follow, all felt like it was there for the cosmetic side of the show. Cast were working hard and gave it their all, but the material is too weak. A shame for one of the shows I was most excited for!

A bombastic and passionate play. Even for one who isn't a fan of pop musicals, it's a fun and intelligent tour de force of talent and spectacle. History lessons were never as electrifying and dazzling. Wonderful

High-energy performances from the whole cast, with strong vocals from those with singing roles and passionate backup dancers. Stunning costumes and great chemistry between the main characters. Special shout-out to the Romans for stealing the show! Some of the songs felt a little samey or repetitive in their lyrics at times, and standing for an hour wasn't particularly comfortable, but it did create the desired immersive effect. 4/5 stars.

away, has now learned to tongue pop, and left infected by an energy she attributes to her inner Queen.
