Description

Fresh-faced, Midwestern actress Lisa Verlo came to Hollywood looking for fame but found more action on casting couches than onstage. Decades later, with help from imaginary mentors Katharine Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe as well as original songs and multimedia projections, Lisa faces the truth about abandoning dreams in her humorous, heartfelt and poignant musical solo show Hollywoodn't. The world prefers to focus on stories about monstrous predators who violate young maidens. But what of the golden boys, the gentlemen predators and the women who don't know they've been screwed until much later? This is that story!

I've been sleeping with Lisa Verlo for some years now. Not in the sense that Hollywood bigshots and fakeshots did or tried to, but because she gave me teeshirt for her previous gig, Sex-Rated G while flyering back in the day. It was XXXL and even I'm not that big, so it's made a great nightshirt for those chilly Scottish nights.

So it's been great to follow her progress on antisocial media since then, and wonderful to catch up with her now, when the material has matured and manages to mix a pretty dark tale with good humour and well-crafted songs. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in the underbelly of the movie industry.

Beautiful and funny show full of depth, honesty and an arresting performance from Lisa. Made me laugh, think, and cry.

Raw and deeply personal, Lisa relates her Hollywood story with humour, song, and Barbies. It’s a tale as old as time…

Bonus points for absolutely nailing Marilyn Monroe’s voice! It’s not as easy as you think.

Wow. This show was so eye opening. I had an idea of what the content would be based on the description but I cringed (in the appropriate way one should) in hearing what Lisa has been though. This story is so brave and I loved the creativity between the multi media, characters, and music. Lisa moves around the stage with ease and take us on the ride. An important piece of work that needs to be in the world. It’s also really funny. Just the right amount of humor injected between the important message. Daring, creative, funny!

This show takes on the #metoo movement from the perspective of female agency. If I went into this knowing what was happening, what does that mean about me, and the system? Lisa’s story is wild - the men who are part of her story are absolutely A-list - and the stories of being a young actress in Hollywood in the 80’s will take you on a ride!!
There are also Barbies, songs, and a good deal of comedy, too. Check it out!
