There are so many aspects to Gush that it's difficult to review without spoilers. An early development is that an apparent dance show is interrupted by a leak, requiring a plumber played by Abby Vicky-Russell. Most of what followed could be most obviously classed as character comedy, in which the plumber explains how 'he' came to be in Edinburgh, and his life in South Yorkshire. The comedy, which involved slight interaction with an audience member, was amusing and popular at the performance I attended. This wasn't really my sort of thing but the twists towards the end were such that I was so glad I went to see this very inventive and ultimately moving and life-affirming show.

You have to see this show!! HILARIOUS!! And also surprisingly moving - the ending is not what I expected at all! Such an innovative idea and Abby is an incredible performer!

Don’t be deceived by the show description - this isn’t simply a character comedy piece. It’s a hard-hitting exploration of something very traumatic, which you might not be up for. If you are - it’s excellent. Fabulous characterisation. The comedic elements are good too. Shame about the fake leak/plumber schtick which wastes the first few minutes but sit through it because it’s worth it.

The best show of our visit this year! A mix of laugh out loud comedy combined with tear jerking sadness. So well written and acted.

Gush is the underdog of this year’s fringe, and packs an emotional punch.
