Sir Trevor Brierly – writer, director, occasional cat-sitter – was many things to many people. To his colleagues Michaelmas Crouch and Patio Horse, he was a friend above all. Patio and Michaelmas host a memorial service in tribute to the life and works of their late companion, featuring Trevor's films and an array of guests, from family members to former lovers, each with a story to tell. James Coward and John Tothill's latest hour of improvisational character comedy combines sketch and film to weave a touching story of loneliness. 'Triumph of character comedy' (

my late teenage son and I dropped into this on a whim, and on balance we thought it was a decent show. some of the videos were very well done - both the writing and the performance. Some of the funniest bits were the way they dealt with the mistakes, which says a number of things, if you think about it.

James and John are undeniably talented as writers and performers. The very best comedy has depth and some of the acting towards the end delivered a hard emotional punch as it became clear what the erstwhile Brierly thought of his supposed best friend - great bit of writing and excellent delivery.

i think these two guys will only keep getting better and I wouldn't be surprised if a few years down the line they pop up in something in mainstream broadcasting.

Absolutely fabulous show. What talented young men you gave a very funny and clever performance. The venue is tiny which makes it very intimate but both actors engaged the audience throughout. I am sure both James and John are going to go places. Thank you for the laughs just loved it

An absolutely brilliant show, a must see. The premise of the show is creative and original, and is delivered through a perfectly balanced mix of media by two very talented performers. The development of the various characters involved was really well executed, and the humour was brilliant, truly epic.

An amazing display of character comedy from a couple of incredibly talented young comedians! The brilliantly natural dynamic between James Coward and John Tothill in this breakout show is something fringe veterans can only dream of and was what really shone out. The perfect blend of clever jokes and silliness makes for a show that is not only fun and exciting, but also widely appealing! A timeless classic in my mind - would definitely recommend to all!

This show is a real gem! These two are really talented, and I loved the different mediums used throughout the show (improv, film, character comedy). Definitely one to watch!

Amazing show. Quirky, off the wall humour, insanely brilliant characters, interspersed with great videos, all of which had us literally doubled over with laughter. Delightfully silly, would really recommend to anyone coming to the fringe!

If you are a fan of the comic stylings of comedy duos such as Fry and Laurie or Mitchell and Webb, then Final Cut is your cup of tea with an extra dollop of sugar thrown in for good measure. Be prepared for exceptional nonsense writing delivered with sincerity, coupled with inventive and entertaining characters who will leave you with the soul-warming feeling of old-school comfort.

There’s a lot to like about Final Cut, which takes the form of a memorial service for writer and director ‘Sir Trevor Brierly’, hosted by two of his oldest ‘friends’, Michaelmas Crouch and Patio Horse. There a...
