Description
A heartfelt coming-of-age story, set against the backdrop of the music of the 1980s. Solo show exploring themes of independence, love, heartbreak and having faith in yourself. The script mashes lyrics from over 100 songs from the 1980s into a mix of dialogue and song – similar in style to Moulin Rouge. Clever witty writing, delivered through a sassy theatric performance. Written and performed by award-winning writer Torrey Shine (Glastonbury, Moth StorySLAM Champ, TEDx, Spirit of the Fringe @PghFringe). Excellent show for anyone who came of age in the 80s.Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. An incredible show, packed with so many references seamlessly woven into the show, this is a definite must see. The energy in this represents the spirit of the Fringe.

Entertaining one-person show that uses an eclectic mixture of lyrics to tell a simple but effective feminist story of coming-of-age, sexual liberation and a relationship going awry. Featuring around 200 references, varying from blink-and-you'll-miss-it subtle uses of key phrases to singing lines from specific songs - and Shine has the voice and stage presence to pull it off. Worth checking out if you get the chance! 4/5 stars.

I'm writing this on the bus on my way back to Glasgow. We just went to see an absolute joy of a show by this young woman. Incorporating references to 150 songs from the 70s & 80s, Torrey has written a hilarious biography of her fictional alter ego, Arlene. It was a real trip down Memory Lane for my partner and me, and obviously for the orher members of the audience, who laughed with glee at the lyrics and delighted in anticipating what song was about to be referenced. Big Ups to this Native New Yorker. I asked her to write a script for me but she must have thought I was pulling her wire. Torrey, hen, A wizny kiddin ye on!!

Innovative, clever and highly entertaining, although mainly spoken with a few bits of singing - how does she remember all those words??! Would definitely recommend

Brilliant comedic musical story telling from Torrey Shine.
She takes you back to the 80s and tells the life story of 'Eileen', from child to schoolgirl to teenager to dating to married life and beyond, all accompanied by music and references to what must be 200+ eighties songs.
As someone who grew up in the 80s, the musical references were spot on, and the story was enthralling, funny, believable and poignant in equal measures.
Well worth a visit and oh, the coffee is excellent as well!
