Description

'Breathtaking, heart-stopping, terrifying' ***** (Cherwell.org). Atop a lonely rock, by the side of a dirt road, in an indeterminate, inhospitable expanse, sits a beggar. Along the very same dirt road comes a man, a bag of apples slung around his neck, dragging behind him a tremendously heavy coffin by a rope. Neither of them seem to know who it's for. Neither are in a rush to find out; they know that they both will, in time. Such is the general futility of things, such as they are. There's supper to be had in the meantime.

A Beckettian rollercoaster of emotions. The writing was gripping, the performances felt real and grounded despite the heightened nature of the text, and the actors had great chemistry. Really looking forward to see PigPen's future projects.

Absolutely sublime. Smart, funny and soul-breaking. One of the best shows I've seen so far.

An incredibly intelligent, funny and poignant play. Wonderfully written twisting script delivered expertly by the two actors. An absurdist delight.

Unmissable! Powerfully draws you in and then spits you out and points you to your pointless core … become a voyeur of the journey we must all make … make it to this!!

Excellent play with even more amazing actors. Reminded me of Waiting for Gadot with its existential dialogue and we’ll placed humor throughout it. I think this play could blow up - go see it.

Deuteronomy (*****)
A beggar sitting on the side of a remote road has a series of philosophical arguments with a dirty man pulling a coffin. For someone like me, who loves debating, their aimless arguments with their many logical parries and thrusts were a delight. I loved watching their intellectual and emotional relationship grow from what was clearly one sided to become that of respected equals.

This is the second most enjoyable of the 53 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. I hope to see almost 200. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/
