Description

Have you ever been caught in a loop? Does every revision require a friggin' revolution? Does pushing too hard only get you right back to the beginning? What if everything really is just the same thing forever? At a time when progress has given way to authoritarianism and disintegration, comedian and storyteller Desiree Burch (Netflix, Live at the Apollo, Radio 4) embarks on a soul-searching journey of mythically ridiculous proportions in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, to learn something deeper about how she, and all of us, have gotten here. Directed by Sarah Chew.

What a show! Desiree took us on a journey through the Burning Man Festival, full of funny asides, high moments, strange meetings, a walk through the wilderness. A fast paced very funny show! And as she said at the end - 'I have told you a story' leaving us to wonder if it was true, how much was true? Did we care? No, because we were thoroughly entertained!

Finally got to see Desiree after her cancelling last year. It was worth the wait. What an amazing perforce! High speed delivery taking us on a journey across the Burning Man festival in a rush of meetings, conversations, tripped out experiences and amazing insights. It simultaneously make me want to be there but soooo glad I wasn't. The audience was swept along with the story and gave Desiree a much deserved standing ovation at the end. I only hope her energy can last for the whole festival.

In this era of post-truth politics, Desiree Burch is keen for us to ensure we distinguish between what is fact and what is a story. Her show at The Hive, Desiree’s Coming Early!, directed by Sarah Chew, contains a little from column A and a little from column B. Burch’s...

In a “day in the life” format of her experiences at Burning Man festival, Desiree Burch intricately tells us the story of her search for sex during an unintentional acid trip. Throw in the history of IQ tests and eugenics, as well as black movie tropes, and you’ve got an...

Desiree’s Coming Early! is a very enjoyable standup show full of jokes and ideas. Birch covers a whole host of serious subjects including racism and objectification with a light touch, all linked together by a story about 24 hours which she spent at the US festival Burning Man.

“Now that is a fact,” says Desiree Burch, as she closes the book on this show’s scripted, lecture-like introduction, before launching eagerly into the meat. “This is a story.” And so begins Burch’s breathless tale of a day spent tripping at Nevada’s infamous Burning Man festival, an epic shaggy-dog story...
