Description
“Compelling... Vividly performed” (Guardian). 'An electric performance' **** (TheReviewsHub.com). A hallucinatory tale of isolation and sexual discovery in rural Wiltshire. Declan makes its Fringe debut after gripping viewers online during lockdown. As childlike outsider Jimbo recalls the disappearance of his friend Declan, he is haunted by ghosts of the past and present. With a hazy grasp on reality, Jimbo searches through his fractured town for Declan – and along the way makes troubling discoveries about his own childhood. Written and performed by Alistair Hall. Directed by Billy Barrett of Breach Theatre. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. An LGBT/coming of age story from rural Ireland, so you already know what to expect: depravity, guilt, shame, family issues, toy fetishes, remoteness, darkness and sadness. Declan is an impressive performance feat by Alistair Hall (writer/performer), who delivers a beautiful, touching story, at pace. 45 minutes in which we see an entire world outside the main story thread, the lead's love for Declan. One of the rare times when I suggest that a play should slow the pace down a tad. We were tired in the audience after the 45 minutes play/race, I can only imagine how tough it is to perform it.

This show was incredible!! It was so engaging, raw and beautifully unnerving. The writing and performance was genuinely mesmerising! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
