Colleen Lavin: Do the Robots Think I'm Funny?

Comedy (stand-up, storytelling)

  • Babes in arms policy: Babies do not require a ticket
  • Policy applies to: Children under 2 years

Description

Colleen constantly fails captcha tests and has often been accused of being more machine than human. She is freaked out by AI so she built a robot to determine if she is funny. She doesn't understand her logic either. The Chicago comedian/sentient ray of sunshine has training from Second City and iO theatres. Her Fringe debut is a sharp gossip-filled show about heroism, insecurity, and the ever-present fear of being replaced by a robot. Expect salacious gossip, baffling technology and unrelenting optimism. Come to laugh, stay to impress future robot overlords.

It's a fun pitch for the show, unfortunately the performer doesn't seem to have a plan for her comedy routine once she gets up there and essentially flounders onstage for an hour while you kind of just feel bad for her. The bot's score contributes nothing to the show, with the robots 'heckling' contributing little to the show as the performer simply dismisses it, killing the potential of the bot as a relevant mechanic to the performance and stopping any momentum she had up until that point. Colleen is a friendly and charming force up onstage, but unfortunately you spend much of the show feeling bad for her as she waffles through the hour

Colleen is funny, fresh and new. Her bot friend is hilarious, too. A treat of a show that examines robots and family dynamics. Looking forward to what Colleen does next.

Show was very fun and enjoyable. Colleen Lavin also answered questions about 'MurderBot' at the end of the show. Definitely worth an hour of anyone's time.

Is Colleen more of a hero than her brother? Does she make you laugh and think and laugh again about the powers of AI? Is she funnier than a robot? The answer to all three is a resounding yes, but don’t take my word for it. See the magic and wonder of Colleen yourself. A gem of a show.

this is a sensible, amusing and companionable tour of the funny side of today’s weird reality.
