Coconut

A show that grows from scraps of seemingly inconsequential information into a richly detailed portrait of the protagonist and those around her, both touching and funny, and even-handed in its mockery of stereotypical ideas of how
a 'brown girl' should behave, whether from her parents and boyfriends or casting agents. A nuanced, understated performance that grows with the character, and a final, sad twist that I didn't see coming. Described as a work in progress, this is already an accomplished piece that deserves to be seen. I'm sure I wasn't alone in today's (largely white) audience to gain fresh perspectives from it.

Definitely recommend this one! The writing and acting was incredible, and the story kept me hooked throughout. The way it explores having complicated relationships with your parents was relatable and really moving. Comedy bits were really funny as well. One of my favourite shows from Fringe.

As a fellow coconut (!) I found this piece so relatable. The script was witty, funny and yet also upsetting at times. The actor commanded the stage at all times and their impressions of all the characters were on point. Knowing this is a work in progress, I hope to see the final version or another piece by this group in the near future!

A lovely work-in-progress solo show, and is so loving and kind to Gen Z young Indian woman and her sub-optimal choices stemming from internalized racism, even while unflinchingly looking at the consequences of those choices and how she continues to deal with them. Brava!

An absolutely hilarious and thrilling performance!
The performing was genuinely gripping; heart-breaking and endlessly funny at the same time. I was stuck to the end of my seat and threw my head back with laughs.
This is definitely a must watch for all Fringe-goers!!!

I really enjoyed this solo show today. Well written, well directed and engagingly performed. It was funny and serious and moving. Watch the main character, a young brown girl, working to become herself, break out of familial and cultural expectations while also not losing who she is and those she loves. I was tearful at the end....well worth seeing.

Feel so so lucky to catch this show - it was just incredible ! I have been to 4 other shows today and it’s literally the one I have been thinking of all day - such a clever, warm, witty, one of a kind script with an incredible solo performance taking you through all the emotions and delivering both laughter and tears - kept me completely enthralled and connected throughout -just brilliant ! please go see this show if you have the chance you won’t regret it !
