Claire Woolner: A Retrospection

Comedy (alternative comedy, performance art)

Venue Age Restriction: Strictly 18+

Description

Claire Woolner, LA-based absurdist comedian, blows hard on the edges of performance art and swims into surrealist clown. Silly comedic bits, playful performance pieces and authentic breakdowns, make this a work of tragicomedy at its finest. Winner: Top of the Fringe, Hollywood Fringe Festival 2023. Winner: Encore Producer's Award, HFF23. Winner: Pick of the Fringe, HFF23. Winner: Platinum Medal, HFF23. Nominee: Best Solo Performance, HFF23. 'A Retrospection is dazzlingly deceptive and beneath her enticing puckish grin lies a depth that could doom a mammoth... There is courage in her clowning, and salvation in our laughter' (TheTVolution.com).

Breathtakingly unique and powerfully performed, Claire rips her heart out, thrusts it into your hands and asks you not to stamp on it, whilst also being uproariously funny. By far the best surprise at this years Fringe, go and give her all the love/money!

A lively, transgressive, and layered performance, full of wit and absurdist leaps of logic. With an almost Tom-Cruise-like energy and commitment, she muddies the water between performer and character, drama and reality. Highly recommended!

This show is simply fantastic. Claire's humour and vulnerability on stage is magnetic, and her connection to the audience is fun, electric, and heartbreaking at times. I didn't know what to expect going in- it was one of the most recommended shows of Fringe this year for a reason. I left feeling deeply connected to my own inner performance artist, and desperately wanting more. This is a must see !

You will feel every emotion possible drawn out of you through the best show that I've seen during my 7 days at Fringe. It's real, it's taxing, it's engaging. You will feel confused, you will feel lost, and you will feel found. By the end you will feel like you are best friends with Claire and the audience because you allowed yourself to be present and open. Please, go.

One of my favourite bits of another show has the lead actor break the fourth wall and complain about the audience and their reaction, pointing out some lessons they could well learn. Done solo and times four, this is this piece. Fabulous.

I have seen the show twice. Worth it! I have seen many excellent shows in the first two weeks of the Fringe, but I have thought about this show more than any other. Claire Woolner is profoundly talented, creative, and bold. Surprising, vulnerable, and in-control. And many more adjectives! Simply— See it!

Claire is brilliant! Constantly keeping the audience guessing, this show takes you on a wild ride. The payoffs are as satisfying as the setups are mystifying. Cathartic, smart and hilarious. Clowning at its best!

Amazing! So happy I came by this.
Super talented, but more importantly - a piece with a lot of care and detail that did all the good things I didn't even now I needed to see or feel!
Clowning as an art and communication. Funny, fresh and on point

Usually a big fan of surrealist comedy, but unfortunately this wasn’t for me. Perhaps it’s too American in terms of humour style.others seemed to enjoy

This is a clown show for adults in the best way possible. It is silly, it is ridiculous, it is innovative and challenging in a very fun way. Claire masterfully blurs the worlds of clown, pathos, performance art, and satire. Enjoy the ride!
