Description

A dark comedy that portrays all the nuances of trying to maintain a childhood friendship you’ve grown out of. It centres on two friends, Sean and Lemon, on a writing retreat as they attempt to build the futures they’ve always dreamed of – being Hollywood stars. But when creative differences lead them to turn to their past for inspiration, Lemon realises her best friend may not be everything she remembers him to be and, instead of writing their futures, the pair finds themselves being haunted by the events of their childhood.

Slow burner, but got better and better, to a very affecting and arresting conclusion. The structure was intricate and the couple of times that music and dance were used were unsettlingly impressive and really added to the experience. Good performances by all of the cast, and a cleverly made, disturbing but memorable new work. Thank you.

An engaging show featuring a nuanced take on some very real issues, with amazing character work and effective lighting techniques to solidify and enhance the experience. Very much recommend!

A thought-provoking study of trauma and its year-spanning, rippling effects.

Theatre Paradok’s latest effort Catching Up is a further attempt from the bold youthful company to push the boundaries of amateur theatre. Director Bella Forshaw’s production shoots for the moon and lands among the stars as it speeds towards its uniquely intriguing, albeit slightly confusing, conclusion. It’s a script with a lot of impressive ideas but it seems unsure of its goal — by the time the lights go to black for the last time, you are ultimately left with more questions than answers.
