Description

'I proper thought I was gonna be a hybrid, edgy, sexy kind of brum town Basquiat with a garnish of Banksy and national treasure potential of David Hockney.' Winner of the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2022, Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz follows Nathaniel: a young man approaching what appears to be his quarter-life crisis. Join Nathaniel on his journey of self-discovery as he explores Black masculinity through Beyonce lyrics, techno raves and the deeply intimate relationship a man has with his barber.

This show was brillant!! A story, told so beautifully and with such feeling. Funny, sad, uplifting. And if it's good enough for Lenny Henry (yes we spotted you), then....
One of my favourite acts of the Fringe!!!

How am I the first audience review for this show??

It's fantastic.

Queeley-Dennis captivates with his wordcraft and his performance the audience surrounding him in the ROUNDABOUT tent at Summerhall, giving everyone the best seat in the house. While his struggles may seem specifically "millennial" (where to go when your barber is on a months long vacation, getting approval from the boys in the group chat, serial-dating), they all circle back to the most universal of pursuits: love. Seeking and fighting for romantic love, nurturing familial love both by blood and by bond, protecting your love of yourself and your art.

Quite a moving ending, as well. See it.

Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz is, in Queeley-Dennis' expert hands, endlessly charming and deceptively complex.
