Description

Local jazz quartet JazzMain has built its reputation around the 1950s and 60s Blue Note jazz era by closely studying exceptional jazz artists like Dexter Gordon and his contemporaries. The band will take you on a historical journey that delves into the history of each artist’s canon of great recordings that shaped and defined cool jazz. Blue Note Nights is the perfect opportunity to hear this hard-driven, punchy, tenor sax-led foursome: Nick Gould (tenor), Steve Grossart (keys), Iain Harkness (electric five-string bass) and Kevin Dorrian (drums).

Caught this show last Wednesday night. Absolutely superb. This is one of the ‘finds’ of The Fringe. The musicianship is first class and the four members JazzMain shone magnificently. If you like ‘Blue Note’ jazz, then this is for you. It’s a travel back in time to the recordings of Dexter Gordon, Horace Silver et al, but done with such detailed research by the band, so many tunes that don’t often get heard, take the spotlight. Go see this! It’s a musical treat that deserves to be heard!
