Description

From the creators of The George Lucas Talk Show, an original play about two fugitives – a mysterious aristocrat and a paranoid junk merchant – stranded on a desolate planet, waiting to be rescued or killed. Starring Griffin Newman (The Tick, Blank Check podcast) and Connor Ratliff (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Dead Eyes podcast), it could best be described as 'Waiting For Godot in space', 'True West, but in another galaxy' and 'Hamlet, but there's two of them, one of whom is Lear'.

Baron and the Junk Dealer (****)
After their passenger spaceship crashes, a man and an alien with an elephant’s nose marooned on a planet learn how to deal with each other to promote their survival. A variety of situations allow this play to blend humor and drama in a touching way while leading to a striking revelation. A bottle of piss is a nice prop that serves both as a focus for their conversation and to reinforce the aura of an alien situation.

This is the 7th most enjoyable of the 28 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. I hope to see almost 200. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/

The Baron and the Junk Dealer is a well-paced, enjoyable standalone play about survival and friendship that can be enjoyed by both fans and newcomers to Connor and Newman’s work. Well worth a watch!

It’s by turns acidly funny and thought-provoking.
