Description

A honky-tonk opera by Jo Carol Pierce, 'the greatest Texas songwriter you’ve never heard of' (Texas Monthly). In this musical comedy, Jo Carol seeks answers to life’s burning questions, like 'what are these boys for and what am I supposed to do with them?!' She turns to Jesus for answers, but rather than set her on a path of righteousness, the response from on high leads to adventures that trouble all who love her! 'A wildy funny and original work' (Billboard). 'A vast, intensely metaphorical epic' (Chicago Reader). 'Meckel is a delightful presence' (Theatreview.org.nz).

Oh wow. This was so moving, funny, relatable and vivid -- and then they told us it was written thirty years ago! Brilliant performance of a profound script.

The nice lady that wrote it was there but I was too busy being moved to say hi. So, uh... hi.

What a fantastic show! Lauren Meckel is such a talent. Charming and witty portrayal of a remarkable unknown Texas songwriter. Lauren embraces this character fully from her charming personality, delightful voice and maniacal personality. The stories are hysterical. The set works really well on the small stage, giving us just enough insight into the Texas scene. The direction is flawless for this one woman show. Can not recommend it enough.

I Had such a great time that I just had to write my first review ever to let you guys know to not miss this Texan powerhouse. Very witty and me and the rest of the audience went on a wild ride from lather to questioning everything again and again. Surreal in the best way.

So funny. A stereotypical look at a crazed gal from Texas. The original music was hilarious and her every choice as an actor was isync with her character. Loved the costume.

That was so hard to sit through... do yourself a favor and skip... just my opinion. Other people liked it a lot so maybe I just didn't get it

So so clever. I couldn't tell if the actress was acting or if that was her personality in earnest until the end. Very witty and the hour flew by. Highly Recommend

The Wee Review (4/5 stars) 83 days ago

This Texan tale of foiled romances and religious dedication is based off a play written in 1989. Yet it captures a romanticised outlook of Texas that in our heads hasn’t really aged at all. This vision is a playground where Lauren Meckel has her fun. This honky-tonk musical is an...
