Description
Toxicity. Red flags. Masturbation. A blunt-speaking, twentysomething botanist, Kate decides it’s time she went back into therapy! Directed by Ella-Faye Donley, this tragicomedy is an outrageous tale of how one woman makes ‘a powerful statement’ (Guardian) and relays experiences from speed-dating to botany to romance to visceral details that would make even your therapist need therapy… This semi-autobiographical show written and performed by Helena Collins O’Connor is ‘a often funny but ultimately sobering reminder’ (TheReviewsHub.com) of how a toxic relationship can be engrained and embedded into the mind. Five stars – based on true-life experiences of coercive control, and abuse; the character Kate is sometimes frenetic and bubbly, yet clearly traumatised - interwoven with moments of high comedy, this deeply emotional and sad story needs to be seen. Not to be missed.

Highly recommended! Auto-engrain is a thought provoking, humorous and relatable one woman show. It explores issues of emotional and physical abuse experienced by the lead character Kate, a 26 year old botanist. We see Kate trying to understand what happened to her during therapy sessions, where we are invited into her world. We hear stories about her abusive relationship and experience her realisation that it was abusive at all. The playwright Helena Collins O’Connor skilfully uses mixed media, emotive performance, humour and interesting metaphors to portray Kate’s journey. Along with supporting acting from Gavin Charles who brings various male characters within the story to life. A must see!
