Description

'Together we can build our fortresses and break their foundations. Together, we can be invincible.' The enigmatic cult of Atlantis has been gradually gathering followers. Now, two new initiates have joined their island community: a young couple, who have abandoned civilisation to pursue the attractive new lifestyle offered by the group's charismatic leader, Matthew. As they adjust to the Atlantis lifestyle, cracks begin to reveal themselves in both their relationship and the integrity of the cult itself. Atlantis is a dark new drama from Broadsword Theatre exploring trust, betrayal and the power of persuasion.

Went to see this yesterday, didn't know anything about it but had seen the different posters around the venue, thought I'd give it a go. Turns out it was brilliant. All the actors did amazing, you really believed the characters they were playing and they sold me on the concept. It does get a bit heavy with the topics, but you don't mind, and the last couple scenes had me on the edge of my seat. Some of it was a bit quiet because the air conditioning was on, but the room was really warm, can't be helped, and it didn't spoil it for me at all. Four stars, wish there was more, would definitely recommend!

Broadsword Theatre's Atlantis is definitely not afraid to tackle some very difficult - and at times even disturbing - themes creating an astonishingly engaging show that will definitely have you going "mh, maybe the crazy cult leader does have a point".

The show boasts a small albeit incredibly talented cast, a definite stand-out being the character portrayed by Sam Eastop, Matthew, who steals the show with his incredible charisma, especially when interacting with Ben (Fraser Nickolls).

You won't want to miss this one.

Broadsword theatre’s newest piece, Atlantis is enthralling from beginning to end. A joy to watch and shocking throughout! Another hit from this up and coming company.
