Description

What is art and should we fund it? Have you ever thought: 'What the f*ck is that? People pay money for that? A two-year-old could do it!' We’re talking art with Ron O’Donnell (Edinburgh Napier University). Who decides what is valuable or creative? Do you need to be educated to understand it? Would you despair if a great artwork was destroyed? Would you give a shit if all contemporary art disappeared tomorrow? If art is an act of expressing feelings, thoughts, and observation, why is so much of it baffling and aloof?

Art is Shit (***)
A real professor of Art lectures on the business of modern art starting with Duchamp’s 1917 “Urinal,” using photos torn from some publication. Most of the time he simply read his notes from the back of the photo pages, then repeated them, and added little else. When the emcee called time, he still had a stack of pages to do, and left me with impression of a poorly prepared presentation given by a likeable man who was out of his depth.

This was the 93rd most enjoyable of the 113 Fringe shows I have seen so far this year. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: www.fringefan.com.
