Description

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter from the world of narrative folk song, poetry and balladry. Recorded works include Child Ballads, Young Man in America, and Hadestown, the latter of which she expanded into a musical. Hadestown opened at London’s National Theatre in November 2018 and transferred to Broadway in 2019. She won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award and the Folk Alliance International Spirit of Folk Award. The common thread in her work is that she's as interested in the world around her as the one inside her. 'A formidable songwriting talent' (New York Times).

South Side Advertiser (5/5 stars) 28 days ago

When the quality of the songwriting and level of musicianship are this good, no "on-stage theatrics" are required and a stripped down performance style of only Anais Mitchell on vocals and guitar with Austin Nevins also on guitar worked perfectly and powerfully here.
