Description
Hope's leaving her hometown up north for the bright lights of London. It's going to be mind-blowing. Attractive Hinge dates. Mature new friends. A job at a dinosaur-themed bar. Hell. Yes. Okay, her manager's a creep. And her housemate seems to hate her... But we don't need to talk about that. With a hilariously naïve protagonist, 'blisteringly funny' (Indiependent.co.uk) Almost Adult combines quick-witted character comedy with touching vulnerability. That's right, Charlotte Anne-Tilley (Winner of Everything Theatre's Award for Ingenuity and 4theatre's Best Debut Performance) is returning to Gilded Balloon for 2023. ***** (@TheatreAndOtherThingsLDN, Instagram). Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. A brilliant execution of a topic known all too well by women, with a perfect balance between light and dark throughout. Plenty of laughs but also some very real moments that sadly many of us may find relatable. I almost felt like this play was an insight to what goes on in my 19-year-old brain, showing the disappointing realisation that growing up isn't always what we dreamed of, and that the first steps into adulthood are really rather challenging. Charlotte's ability to switch from character to character through her voice and movement skills was very impressive, and her writing is beautiful. The only thing about this venue was that it was very stuffy and small, felt a little bit too close to the stage as I was in the front row.

Wow! Very powerful show! Beautifully written, and wonderfully performed, Hope (the character) takes us on a journey into adulthood, which stirs all sorts of emotions. I laughed. I cried. I raged at the injustice. This is storytelling at its best. One of the best shows I've seen this year.

I thought this was super! Me and 3 friends went to see it (we are all around the same age as the character) and we’ve all just moved to new cities! We thought is was fantastic and relatable! Well acted and written (and the manager character was a little too accurate!!) loved it

'Almost Adult' is my personal favourite show of Fringe this year! It is funny and touching in perfect balance and encapsulates the brutal loss of innocence that so many sadly go through. Charlotte is amazing and I simply cannot recommend this show enough.

I went to see this recently with my partner and my cousin. All three of us loved it. I laughed and I cried. It was excellently written and performed. I highly recommend!

A powerful story told in a very accessible way. One of the highlights of this years Fringe for me.

Excellent performances in this one-person show. Funny, relatable, and sad. I think it might be upsetting (triggering) to some, I know I didn't notice the warnings in the guidebook. But its excellently put together and painfully well observed.

Always amazed when someone can capture an audience for a whole hour, just them on stage. Highly energetic and on her toes with the wit, Charlotte navigates a delightful performance on a topic that is tough at its best and, sadly, probably too relatable to us all. She skillfully walks the line between funny, heavy, and honest.
