Description

After a momentous sell-out run at the 2020 Buxton Fringe (resulting in the only award of the festival) But Why? and The D8R Collective are delighted to bring their market tested and ground-breaking 'socialisation system' to the Edinburgh Fringe. Utilising the most advanced technology ever seen in digital-human interaction, The Affinity Initiative is guaranteed to find you the most perfect companion! The Affinity Initiative is an online experience designed to be played by a single person. The experience will last up to an hour and will involve a video call and email exchanges.

Super engaging, fun, ridiculous, and innovative. A show which leaves you asking questions about how you interact with society.

Such an amazing experience and unlike anything else I’ve come across at the Fringe. In a word, innovative.

One of the best things about doing work in theatre I think is seeing what creativity can arise.

And this show is a clever one.

Most people have reservation about "theatre online," as do I. The assumption is that it will just be a play with a fixed perspective. A poor mans movie. Inferior to theatre in person in every way.

However that is theatre online. This show is online theatre. A brilliantly clever piece designed from the bottom up around the digital space. Immersive and intriguing. Covid theatre is beyond difficult but it's been knocked out of the park here.

Hats off to the actors, directors and showrunners. They killed it.
