Description

Dream job, huge fanbase and in a committed relationship with a hunky dancing bear. Everything was going right for the bearded lady; until her secret came out... Appropriating Leonardos from da Vinci to DiCaprio, a gender-bending journey and joyful f*ck you to a world that asks people to hide or change who they are. 'Van der Beek is a brilliantly understated comic writer and performer who draws on the work of Andy Warhol and Lady Gaga, as well as the punk spirit of Deborah Harry and the Sex Pistols' (Scotsman).

A real hidden gem of the fringe that I wished I had discovered earlier.
The writing has a fierce imagination and a very winning performance from Van Der Beek mixing, as it does, comedy, singing and high drama. The musical hall influence is strongly in evidence but also are the more subtle contemporary motifs that gives this such an original bent. Great vision from this writer/performer. I was genuinely disappointed when it ended.

Very entertaining and surprising. Loved all the singing and acting and had the most laughs among all the free fringe shows. Definitely a must-see to leave the festival with a good taste.

Smart, original and really well crafted! A great performance, a real find in amongst all the thousands of options out there! Thoroughly recommend it!

Comedy, theatre and song, with a nod to the Victorian music hall. Miss van der Beek's performance (and Victorian female stage performers were always a "Miss", whether single, married or in a civil partnership) as the eponymous Bearded Lady is at times enchanting, funny, joyous, and delightful, but there is also drama and stark tragedy - and just the right amount of bawdiness...And her singing voice is simply beautiful. Original and captivating, I highly recommend.
