Description
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is famous for glitz, glitter and glamour, but it started with megaphones and violence. Malcolm met Tommy just before the first Mardi Gras in ’78, but their relationship didn’t find its feet until that fateful night when Sydney’s police took aim at the LGBTIQA+ community. The origin story of the world’s most glamorous Pride parade comes to life in this heartbreaking story of love, laughter and loss. The queer spirit cuts through with grim determination and a little glitter. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. This is a though-provoking story that needs to be told. And it's told with feeling, conviction and dignity. With only one more performance (on Sunday) this is something that everyone needs to see and feel, it provides a real insight as to how some things have changed beyond recognition and yet we as a LGBTIQA+, or even 'straight' community, feel we are still on the edge of real understanding.
Superb.
