Description

'One of the finest guitarists, soaring vocals, epic songs' (Mojo). Herald Angel award winner Nick (son of Roy Harper) presents an all-new show centred on a small flat in 60s Kilburn – an after-hours hang-out for folk legends playing the clubs of London at the height of the acoustic explosion. Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, Paul Simon, Sandy Denny and more passed through the family home and Nick pays tribute to this rich, folk heritage as he delves into songs that he heard direct from these luminaries. 'Acoustic Hendrix!' (Guitar). 'Betjeman with a guitar' (Guitarist).

Nick Harper’s latest Fringe show tells the story of 58 Fordwych Road - the London flat he first lived in with his parents - through the music of the legendary folk musicians who played with his father Roy and visited there in the Sixties. Nick, a respected singer-songwriter in his own right, is also at home with a cover version, and he makes the songs of Davey Graham, Bert Jansch and his dad (amongst others) hauntingly his own. His usual charm and self-deprecating humour is also on show, as he tells tales on his childhood self then invites the crowd to touch the flat’s “holy relics” and play Graham’s ‘Angie’ for him. Laughter one minute, tears the next. An emotional tribute to folk, guitars and family... and not knowing where the time goes.

Loved this show. Interesting journey through the folk and acoustic scene of the sixties. I will definitely go and see Nick Harper again. Chilled, intimate way to spend an hour.
