Explore the roots of jazz, from ragtime through the jazz age, in the speakeasy atmosphere of this world famous venue. Delving into the archives of turn-of-the-century New Orleans music, we’ll look at the very first music to be known as jazz and its earliest pioneers including Clarence Williams, Jelly-Roll Morton, Kid Ory and Louis Armstrong. Expect exciting arrangements of well-loved standards, some lesser-heard gems and even a bit of history from your fresh, young(ish) hosts Tenement Jazz Band.
