Description
Transgressive, irreverent, yet adorable and heartfelt, with a touch of political satire. Rice (WIP) is a comedy about growing up in China and fighting repression with food. 'Charm personified, definitely one to watch' ***** (Morning Star). 'What he has is potent in its imagery, authenticity, perverse logic, and volatility' (Comedy.co.uk). Alvin was made in China, schooled by the English and influenced by Tupac. In 2022 he moved to London to pursue his dream of being a funny expat, sharing his ridiculous views on cultures and countries. 'We can all find happiness with a bowl of rice' (Confucius). Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. I really enjoyed this hour by Alvin Liu. His unique perspective as a Chinese immigrant and optimism shined through. The time flew by with act outs, constant laughs and a nice spin on the things we take for granted sometimes. I recommend taking this one in while you can!

We went to see this on a whim because we had an hour to kill and we're so glad we did. An intelligent and funny observation of the cultural differences between East and West. High quality comedy, wouldn't be out of place on the radio 4 comedy skit. Go see it, you'll be glad you did.

I had so much fun at this show. Alvin has such a warm and inviting stage presence, and it feels like you’re just sharing some really great laughs with a new friend. Kudos especially for playing to a small audience before noon - can’t be easy but still had amazing energy. Super funny, and highly recommend.

Alvin has some interesting perspectives on life and I enjoyed this. It's as much thought provoking as funny. Some of the references are probably aimed at an audience younger than me but still fun.
